RML Community Involvement

As a not-for-profit organization, RML Specialty Hospital sponsors and supports local and far-reaching initatives that support the health of our community. Some of our efforts are outlined here.

Partnering for better community health


  • Through contributions to Rush University Medical Center and Loyola University Health System, we invest in the charitable missions of both systems — helping to provide care and health resources to thousands of people throughout the Chicagoland area each year.
  • RML participates in health care programs sponsored by other Chicago health care leaders. Recently, the American Lung Association, in partnership with Walgreens launched a campaign to raise the awareness of chronic obstructive pulmonary disorder (COPD). Sixteen specially-trained RML respiratory therapists participated, conducting free breathing tests at Walgreens stores in and around the city.
  • RML provides free case management assistance to more than 65 referring hospitals throughout the six-county region, helping find the most appropriate site of care for long-term patients' needs.

Offering health education and resources to our community

RML delivers a number of additional benefits to our community, including health education for the students of two local schools, support groups for the grieving families of seriously ill patients, assistance to RML employees who want to quit smoking, and volunteer employee participation in community fund-raising events.

Educating the caregivers of the future

At RML, we provide hands-on clinical opportunities that ensure well-trained caregivers for our community. Each year, we welcome dozens of nursing students and students of rehabilitation therapy and administration to sample, study and promote RML's brand of quality, compassionate care for those who need it most.

Promoting comfort and joy

Each year, RML employees participate in a Holiday Drive, benefiting local area charities. This past year, we collected more than 330 pounds of food for Hinsdale Community Service, nearly 200 pounds in clothing for the Constance Morris House in LaGrange, a large collection of winter hats, mittens, and scarves for the Chicago Off-the-Street Club, and several boxes of toys for Toys Express sponsored by local fire departments.
