Billing & Financial Assistance
Billing, insurance, and financial questions are a normal part of planning hospital care—especially during a stressful time. At RML Specialty Hospital, our goal is to make this process clear, supportive, and transparent for patients and families navigating complex medical decisions.
Before admission, our team reviews insurance coverage and works with families to explain what is known at that time. We help you understand next steps and connect you with the appropriate resources, so financial concerns do not become an added burden during care.
How Billing Works at RML
RML bills for hospital services related to your loved one’s stay, including room, nursing care, and therapies. Physician services are billed separately by the physicians involved in care.
If complete and accurate insurance information is provided, and an authorized assignment of insurance benefits is signed, RML will file primary and secondary insurance claims on your behalf. Insurance coverage varies by plan, and patients may remain responsible for deductibles, copayments, or coinsurance as determined by their insurer.
Our team is available to help explain billing statements and answer questions throughout this process.
Insurance Coverage Overview
RML works with many insurance plans, including:
-
Medicare
-
Medicaid
-
Most commercial insurance plans, including Blue Cross plans
Coverage and out-of-pocket responsibility depend on the specific terms of each individual plan. This may include deductibles, copayments, or coinsurance amounts determined by your insurer.
Before admission, RML reviews insurance coverage and communicates with families about what is known at that time. Our goal is to help you understand coverage clearly and early in the process.

If you have questions about how Medicare coverage applies to your situation, our team can help explain the process.
Medicaid Beneficiaries
RML is a participating provider in the State of Illinois Medicaid Program. Medicaid beneficiaries and individuals seeking information about Medicaid eligibility should contact their local Department of Social Services for details regarding benefits, coverage, and managed care options.
Private Insurance Beneficiaries
RML contracts with most major insurance providers and Medicaid managed care plans, offering services at discounted rates. Coverage varies by plan, and patients are typically responsible for deductibles, co-payments, coinsurance, and any required authorizations. Because insurance benefits and requirements can change, patients are encouraged to review their plan details or contact their insurance company directly to confirm current coverage and financial responsibility. Insurance coverage is a contract between the patient and the insurer.
Uninsured Patients & the No Surprises Act
Significant discounts may be available for uninsured patients and those who qualify for financial assistance. Additional details are provided in the Financial Assistance section below.
In compliance with the No Surprises Act, RML will provide uninsured or self-pay patients with a Good Faith Estimate for healthcare items and services upon request. To request an estimate, please contact the admitting department.

Insurance Companies & Contracted Coverage
If you have health insurance—such as PPO, HMO, or POS plans—it is important to review your benefit plan or contact your insurance company directly to understand deductibles, coinsurance, and authorization requirements. Because insurance contracts and coverage details can change, verifying current benefits is always recommended.
RML participates in most major insurance plans and Medicaid managed care programs. When complete information is provided, RML submits claims to insurance providers and works directly with them whenever possible. Insurance coverage is a contract between the patient and the insurer, and patients may have financial responsibility for services rendered.
